My process

Lost wax casting

Some of my jewellery is made by sand casting, and I either hand carve a wax model or draw up a design in CAD before casting it myself. It's not for the faint-hearted as it involves hand-pouring molten metal into a sand mould. I love the immediacy of it, though it does need a lot of clean up.

Sand casting has been used for around 5,000 years, and I'm totally fascinated that such an ancient method is still being used today, like many other traditional jewellery making techniques.

I also create hand crafted, one-of-a-kind jewellery using traditional bench skills and love to source unusual gemstones for these unique pieces.
